That is a very legit question. Why do Americans Idolize American Idol? Why has American Idol been one of the most talked about reality TV shows over the past 5 years. Is it Simon, Paula, and the other guy? (Just kidding, Randy.) Is it that Seacrest guy? Most definitely not. Although they add an interesting twist to a show of otherwise boring singing auditions, that is pretty much what it is.
Before I proceed, I need to admit that I do not watch American Idol on a regular basis. Especially, after they get to Hollywood, that's when it's time to start watching a different tv show that is airing at the same time as American Idol. I do catch the headlines one the internet and the highlights on YouTube everyonce in a while. What is the big deal and what is the huge phenomena that is the American Idol?
What I believe might not matter to anyone else, but the hype surrounding American Idol is not about the actual talented people on the show. Americans don't idolize the winners of the show but the people that go on the show to get ripped on by Simon in the first few episodes. It has gotten popular enough that I think that there are people that know that they don't have any talent but they want to be on TV. I'm talking about the people that are desperately seeking the attention that only TV can give them.

yes, yes. i have often wondered these things myself. and i still am coming up with nothing.
It is a platform where nobody's can become somebody's and then fizzle out and become use-to-be's. And you get to watch the whole process from the comfort of your own trailer. Now if you were to have the singers that are voted off fall through a trap door onto the American Gladiator set where they have to fight Toa and Helga.....I could get behind it!
